The group played feel-good hits spanning the 1960s through today — classic rock, pop and a splash of country — as families staked out spots on the lawn with blankets, lawn chairs and picnic spreads well before the 7 p.m. start. Kids slipped away to the playground between songs while their parents drifted closer to the stage, and by the time the sun dropped behind the tree line, much of the crowd was on its feet, singing along under a string of stage lights glowing red and green against the dusk.
It was the kind of evening that closes out a season rather than just another Friday night: neighbors catching up over folding tables of snacks, kids weaving between lawn chairs, and a band working through an easy mix of eras that had something for every generation in the park. The weather cooperated fully, clear and mild enough to stay through the whole set without a jacket.
For Green Brook, the "Last Concert in the Park" has become the unofficial marker that summer is over and fall is next — less a goodbye than an excuse for one more night outside together before the weather turns. Green Brook Recreation runs its concert series at Arthur Lewis Park each summer.
