The free, family-friendly gathering will take place Sunday, November 15, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Ted Blum 4-H Center, 310 Milltown Road, Bridgewater.
Hosted by Somerset County 4-H, the event will feature quick, hands-on projects and activities organized by participating 4-H clubs. Each completed project will be donated to a community organization selected by the club hosting that activity.
The “make-and-give” format connects a creative activity with a practical purpose: participants can help make something that will be shared with others. Families will have an opportunity to contribute to community service together during the two-hour gathering.
With Thanksgiving approaching, the event offers a way to turn appreciation into action. Rather than taking their completed projects home, participants will contribute them to the organizations chosen by the clubs.
The gathering also provides an introduction to 4-H’s emphasis on learning through participation. As the youth development program of the nation’s Cooperative Extension System, 4-H offers hands-on experiences across a broad range of interests.
Those opportunities include agriculture, science, technology, engineering and mathematics, health, civic engagement and the arts. Community service brings several of those interests together while giving young people a role in helping others.
Somerset County 4-H membership is open to young people from kindergarten through one year after high school. The program encourages youth to develop confidence and skills through activities that allow them to explore, practice and learn by doing.
Families interested in discovering more about the program can use the November gathering as an opportunity to see its community-service approach in action.
