The project combines refreshed reading and work areas with improvements designed to make the main floor easier to navigate for patrons using wheelchairs, families with strollers and visitors with other mobility needs.
Following asbestos remediation, the Borough of Bound Brook moved into the second phase of construction, which was scheduled for completion by the end of October. Work includes relocating public computers to the Adult Reading Room and installing new shelving for both adult and children’s collections.
The former computer room is being converted into a dedicated programming and children’s play area, while the main-level restrooms are being fully modernized. Both mezzanine spaces are being reorganized for staff work areas and storage. Exterior improvements address the building’s structure and appearance.
Alongside construction, library staff are preparing to purchase materials, install the network, hardware and software needed for public technology access, and organize the updated spaces for patrons.
The reopening will not include every part of the building. The lower-level Children’s Area and upper-level Conference and Archive rooms will remain closed until a future third phase restores those areas.
“Having access to library services right here in the Bound Brook community is vital,” said Mayor Dominic Longo.
The improvements will restore a nearby library resource within SCLSNJ, which also serves Green Brook. Reading areas, computer access and space for children’s activities are central to the plans for welcoming patrons back.
